Port of Brisbane container volume up 2pc to 91,576 TEU in Feb

  

  Apr 14--CONTAINER throughput at the Port of Brisbane saw a solid increase in February handling 91,576 TEU, a 2 per cent increase over the same month last year when volume totalled 89,777 TEU, according to the latest trade statistics from the port.

  However, February's throughput was a decrease of more than 17 per cent over the previous month's throughput of 111,187 TEU, the Lloyd's List of Australia reported.

  Looking at the rolling 12 months, from March 2016 to February 2017, Brisbane saw a throughput of 1.19 million TEU, an increase of 3.5 per cent (or 40,498 TEU) over the same period the previous year.

  In February 2017, 42,732 TEU was imported (46.6 per cent of total throughput), 47,522 TEU (51.9 per cent) was exported and 1,322 TEU was transshipped.

  The largest cargo category imported through Brisbane was reported as "import other", with 18,646 TEU for the month.

  Other notable imports were empty containers (4,297 TEU), freight all kinds (4,266 TEU), and building products (3,747 TEU).

  Port of Brisbane's largest containerised export was fresh air, with 20,696 TEU of empty containers leaving the port in February, almost half (43 per cent) of the port's total exports.

  Other big containerised exports for the port included "export other" (10,315 TEU); agricultural seeds (5,320 TEU); paper and wood pulp (2,537 TEU); and freight all kinds (2,532 TEU).
